ST JOHN Ambulance will deliver its first ever training programme in Arabic this month in a bid to make first aid accessible to all.
According to statistics* just 14% of adults in the UK have even very basic first aid skills.
St John Ambulance London (Prince of Wales's) District believe that everyone should have the basic first aid skills they need to act in a medical emergency. As part of a new initiative they will be running this special first aid course, free of charge, to Arabic speaking females.
This complementary course, to be held on Wednesday 26th November 2008, at St John Ambulance London's head quarters in York Street, Marylebone, will see the first ever Arabic first aid course held by St John Ambulance in the Capital. The course will be delivered with help from a female interpreter and all course materials have been translated in to Arabic.
The six hour course (0930 - 1630) will cover emergency life support and basic first aid skills, resuscitation, the treatment of severe bleeding, chest pains, choking and the unconscious casualty. The course will also cover sprains, strains, fainting, bites, stings and minor burns.
Alan Powell, Head of Training, said: ‘The aim of this first aid course is to make first aid accessible to all. After careful research we have developed this course to be delivered in
Arabic to Arabic speaking females in London. This is the first time that we have delivered a course in this way.'
