"I found being in charge really tough at first. I was constantly wanting staff to like me rather than ensuring they knew what their responsibilities were. I particularly didn’t feel comfortable bossing around people who were older than me. I was in my late 20s and some individuals had more experience on paper than I did. But I learnt the hard way through experience. These days I'm more aware that you can't be everyone's friend in business. Being an employer means you have to draw the line and make sure people see you as someone who directs them – even if it means you'e not popular all the time."
