JOANNA Spicer, former Chairman of Suffolk County Council, has officially taken over the role of Chairman of the Council of St John, Suffolk.
Having been an active member of the Council of St John for more than a decade, Joanna replaces the outgoing chairman, Major General Tony Pollard, who has had six years in post.
Also current chair of the Suffolk Police Authority Audit Committee, Cllr Spicer has lived and worked in the county for nearly 40 years and is eager to spread the word of St John Ambulance and the great difference it makes to the lives of others.
She said: ‘I was first invited to join the Council of St John in Suffolk by a former chairman and have always regarded it as a great honour to be part of the organisation.
‘To now be taking over from Major General Tony Pollard is a tremendous privilege and a hard act to follow.’
She added: ‘I am a great admirer of the work of St John Ambulance volunteers and I look forward to meeting many of them and to seeing the great work they do in making a difference within the Suffolk community.’
Major General Tony Pollard added his welcome to Cllr Spicer, saying: ‘There is a tremendous ‘can do’ spirit throughout St John Ambulance in Suffolk, so it has been a privilege to be involved at the level I have.
‘I wish Joanna the very best of luck in the post and know she will thoroughly enjoy her term as chairman.’
